Battery protection in a 2×2 mm footprint
The Texas Instruments BQ24352DSGT is a single-chip Li-ion battery protection IC that monitors cell voltage and charge/discharge current, triggering a disconnect when any of four fault conditions — overcurrent, over/under voltage, short circuit, or overtemperature — is detected. The 8-WSON (2x2 mm) package with exposed pad fits into the tight PCB real estate of a handheld device, power tool, or portable medical instrument where a protected battery pack is required.
Fault protection set — what each guard does
Overcurrent protection limits the charge or discharge current to a safe threshold, preventing cell damage or thermal runaway. Over/under voltage detection keeps each cell within its safe operating window — critical for Li-ion chemistry where over-voltage risks fire and under-voltage degrades cycle life. Short-circuit protection responds to a hard fault on the pack terminals. Overtemperature shutdown protects the IC and the cell from excessive die temperature.
The part is ROHS3 compliant.
