Li-ion single-cell protector with full fault coverage
The Texas Instruments BQ24350DSGT is a single-chip Li-Ion battery protection IC in an 8-WSON (2x2) package. It monitors the cell for overcurrent, overtemperature, overvoltage, undervoltage, and short-circuit conditions — the full set of fault triggers needed to keep a lithium-ion cell inside its safe operating area.
What the protection range means for the BOM
Overvoltage and undervoltage thresholds prevent the cell from charging above its safe termination voltage or discharging into deep-discharge territory — the two conditions that degrade cycle life fastest. Overcurrent and short-circuit detection trip on excessive load current, which in a portable or battery-backup design is the event that would otherwise blow a PCB trace or stress the FETs. Overtemperature protection shuts the part down when the die itself or the nearby cell exceeds the rated limit, which is especially relevant in tight enclosures where thermal runaway is a real risk.
It is ROHS3 compliant.
