The Texas Instruments BQ24314ADSGR is a single-chip battery protection IC designed for Lithium Ion packs. It monitors the cell for over-current, over-temperature, and over/under-voltage faults and disconnects the load or charger when a fault is detected. The 8-WSON (2x2 mm) package fits the tight board area of a compact battery management system (BMS) on a single-cell portable or backup-power application.
Fault protection set — what each guard does
The BQ24314ADSGR integrates four protection functions: over-current (short-circuit and over-discharge current), over-temperature (die-level thermal shutdown), over-voltage (charger runaway or cell over-charge), and under-voltage (deep discharge cutoff). There is no separate external sense resistor or comparator needed — the IC handles the detection and the drive for an external N-channel MOSFET that opens the pack path. For a single-cell Li-Ion BOM, this collapses the protection stage to one IC plus one FET, saving board space and component count compared to a discrete comparator-plus-PTC approach.
The 8-WSON (2x2 mm) package is a surface-mount leadless package with a thermal pad underneath.
