Product details

BQ24120RHLT — single-cell Li-Ion charger with 2A programmable current

The Texas Instruments BQ24120RHLT is a bqSWITCHER™ series single-cell Li-Ion/Polymer battery charger IC in a 20-VQFN (3.5x4.5) package. It integrates a constant-current/constant-voltage charge algorithm with programmable charge current up to 2A and a fixed 4.2V battery regulation voltage. The input supply range extends to 16V, making it suitable for 5V USB or 12V wall-adapter inputs without an external pre-regulator in many portable designs.

Charge current, timer, and thermal protection

Charge current is programmable via an external resistor, and the timer-based termination provides a safety backup if the current taper does not reach the termination threshold within the configured window. Built-in over-temperature protection shuts down the charger if the die temperature exceeds the safe limit, protecting both the IC and the battery during high-ambient or high-current operation.

The exposed pad is the primary thermal path and should be connected to the ground plane with multiple vias.

Lifecycle and compliance

As a Texas Instruments bqSWITCHER™ series device, it is supported by full datasheet documentation and application notes. No pin-compatible second source is listed; the part is single-sourced from TI.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum charge current for BQ24120RHLT?

The maximum programmable charge current is 2A, set by an external resistor. The battery regulation voltage is fixed at 4.2V for a single Li-Ion or Li-Polymer cell.
