What the charge parametrics mean for your BOM
The BQ24104RHLR is a single-chip Li-Ion/Polymer charger from the bqSWITCHER™ series, handling 1 to 2 cells with a maximum battery pack voltage of 8.4V and a programmable charge current up to 2A. The 16V maximum supply voltage gives headroom for 12V rails or USB-C PD sources without an external pre-regulator — a common design-in consideration for portable equipment. Constant-current charging is programmable via an external resistor, and the integrated timer provides a safety backup if the termination current is never reached — useful for fault-tolerant designs.
Surface-mount assembly with a 0.5mm pitch QFN — the center pad must be soldered to the PCB's thermal land; an insufficient solder joint here is the most common field failure for this package class.
Protection and temperature grade
Built-in fault protection covers over-temperature and over-voltage events — the charger shuts down before the battery or the IC itself enters an unsafe region.
