What this shunt reference does on your board
It holds the output at ±1% tolerance from a minimum of 2.5 V up to 36 V, sinking up to 15 mA with a cathode current floor of 100 µA. That 2.5 V minimum is the internal bandgap — set the output higher with two resistors.
Active lifecycle — no near-term LTB worry
The ATL431LIAIDBZR carries an Active status and is ROHS3 compliant.
SOT-23-3 footprint — drop-in for the TL431
The SOT-23-3 package (also listed as TO-236-3, SC-59) matches the industry-standard pinout for adjustable shunt references. The adjustable output means you keep the same resistor divider. The 100 µA minimum cathode current is lower than the 1 mA typical for many shunt references, which helps in low-power bias circuits.
