It provides four driver outputs with no receivers on-chip, making it a pure transmit-side interface IC for balanced serial links. The 16-SOIC narrow-body package (3.90 mm width) is a standard surface-mount footprint that fits most PCB layouts without a board spin.
Supply and temperature — the fit boundaries
It will not tolerate 5V on VCC, so if your backplane or cable-side supply is 5V, you need a level shifter or a different driver. For outdoor telecom cabinets or engine-bay applications, you would need the industrial-temperature variant (AM26LV31IDR, −40°C to 85°C).
