24-bit Sigma-Delta ADC with integrated MUX
The ADS1258IRTCT is a 24-bit Sigma-Delta ADC from Texas Instruments that integrates an 8- or 16-channel input multiplexer (MUX-ADC configuration) to handle differential or single-ended signals. It samples at 125 kSPS, making it suitable for multi-channel data-acquisition systems where each channel must be scanned at a moderate rate without an external mux.
Input flexibility and channel count
The ADC accepts either 8 differential or 16 single-ended inputs, selectable via the integrated multiplexer. This lets the same device serve applications that need common-mode rejection on a few channels or high-density monitoring on many single-ended lines. The SPI data interface connects directly to most microcontrollers without glue logic, and the external reference allows the user to set the full-scale range to match the sensor output.
Package and thermal interface
Housed in a 48-VFQFN exposed-pad package (7x7 mm,), the device relies on a solid thermal connection through the center pad to the PCB ground plane. The exposed pad also serves as the analog ground return, so the layout must keep it separate from the digital ground plane to maintain the ADC's noise performance.
