D2PAK logic-level TRIAC for 800 V line switching
The ACST610-8GTR is an 800 V, 6 A RMS sensitive-gate TRIAC from STMicroelectronics' ACS™/A.S.D® series, housed in a D2PAK (TO-263-3) surface-mount package.
6 A RMS continuous, 47 A surge at 60 Hz
The 6 A RMS on-state current covers loads like small universal motors, resistive heaters up to 1.4 kW at 230 VAC, or solenoid valves with a holding current well below the 25 mA maximum hold current (Ih). The 45 A / 47 A non-repetitive surge rating (50/60 Hz) handles the inrush from an incandescent lamp string or a motor start — the TRIAC survives the half-cycle surge as long as the RMS current stays within the 6 A limit averaged over the thermal time constant of the die. The sensitive-gate spec (Igt 10 mA max, Vgt 1 V max) means the part triggers reliably from a low-current logic source, but the gate drive must source at least 10 mA at the logic supply voltage minus the gate drop — a 3.3 V output with a 220 Ω series resistor delivers about 10.5 mA, which is marginal; a 5 V logic rail with a 390 Ω resistor gives 10.3 mA and is within the safe drive window.
