Isolation and drive — the numbers that matter
The SI823H6AD-IS3: Rated for 5000 Vrms isolation, this 2-channel digital isolator doubles as a gate driver with 6 A peak output current. The 4 A source and 4 A sink capability (high/low) means it can drive the gate capacitance of medium-power MOSFETs and IGBTs without an external booster stage. Common-mode transient immunity of 125 kV/µs minimum ensures the output stays clean when switching fast edges — critical in motor-drive and inverter applications where the ground plane bounces at high dV/dt. Propagation delay is 30 ns max (both directions), with pulse-width distortion held to 5 ns. That timing consistency matters for dead-time control in half-bridge topologies — the 30 ns window is tight enough to avoid shoot-through in most 20–100 kHz switching designs.
