Gate driver for noisy, high-temp environments
The SI8232BB-D-IS is a two-channel isolated gate driver from Skyworks, built with capacitive coupling technology and qualified to AEC-Q100 for automotive applications. The 2500Vrms isolation rating and 20kV/µs common-mode transient immunity let it sit on the secondary side of a traction inverter or DC-DC converter without losing data edges during fast switching events. Peak output current is 500 mA, with source/sink rated at 250 mA and 500 mA respectively — enough to drive the gate charge of medium-power IGBTs or SiC MOSFETs in a half-bridge leg. Propagation delay is 60 ns max with 5.6 ns pulse-width distortion, so dead-time margins stay tight even at higher switching frequencies. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 125°C, covering the under-hood automotive band and industrial extended-range environments. The output supply voltage range of 9.4 V to 24 V gives flexibility to match different gate drive rails — 15 V for standard IGBTs or 18-20 V for some SiC parts.
Supplied in tube packaging — the same die and package as the tape-and-reel variant SI8232BB-D-ISR, just different delivery format. For rework, the wide-body SOIC is hand-solderable with a fine-tip iron; no hot-air station required if the board has adequate pad access.
