3750 Vrms isolation for motor-drive gate bias
The SI8230BC-D-IS1 is a 2-channel capacitive-coupling gate-driver isolator from Skyworks Solutions, rated for 3750 Vrms isolation between the input logic side and the output gate-drive side. Each channel delivers 500 mA peak output current, with a 250 mA source and 500 mA sink capability — the asymmetrical drive lets the gate turn off faster than it turns on, which matters for half-bridge shoot-through prevention. Propagation delay is 45 ns max in both directions, and pulse-width distortion stays under 5.6 ns, so the dead-time budget in a motor-drive or DC-DC converter design doesn't need extra guard-banding for the isolator.
20 kV/µs CMTI and the automotive temperature band
Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 20 kV/µs minimum — this means the high-side gate signal stays valid when the switch node flies at dv/dt rates typical of SiC and fast IGBT switching, without false triggering the output. The output supply range spans 6.5 V to 24 V, which covers the common gate-drive bias rails from a 12 V automotive battery through a 24 V industrial bus. Operating temperature extends from -40°C to 125°C, and the AEC-Q100 qualification confirms the part passes the reliability stress and PPAP requirements for under-hood and chassis-domain deployment.
