RA2L1 Cortex-M23 with on-chip touch and AES
The R7FA2L1AB2DFL#BA0: An additional 8 KB of data flash (EEPROM emulation) stores calibration constants or configuration parameters without wearing the main flash. Capacitive touch sensing, AES encryption, a true random number generator (TRNG), and a temperature sensor are integrated on-chip, so a tamper-resistant HMI or sensor node can run without external security or touch-controller ICs.
Memory and peripheral budget for a sensor-node design
256 KB flash leaves room for a FreeRTOS kernel, a touch library, and application code with OTA update staging. The 32 KB SRAM supports moderate-size frame buffers or data logging before external RAM is needed. Connectivity includes CAN, I²C, SPI, SCI (UART), and USB-capable UART/USART — enough to talk to a BLE module, an external ADC, or a CAN bus on the same board without a level translator. The 9-channel 12-bit SAR ADC and single 12-bit DAC handle analog sensor inputs and a control output; the internal oscillator trims to within 1 % accuracy, saving the external crystal for applications that need tighter timing.
Package and board integration
The exposed paddle on the underside provides a thermal path to the ground plane. 34 GPIOs are available — sufficient for a 4x4 keypad matrix, an SPI display, three sensor interrupts, and a CAN transceiver, with a few pins left over.
The RA2L1 series is Renesas's entry-level Cortex-M23 family, positioned for cost-sensitive touch and sensor applications.
