Four UART channels with 64-byte FIFOs
The NXP SC16C654BIB64,151 packs four independent UART channels into a single 64-LQFP package, each with a 64-byte transmit and receive FIFO. This FIFO depth lets the host CPU service interrupts in bursts rather than per character, cutting interrupt overhead by up to 64× per channel at the 5 Mbps data rate ceiling. Each channel includes modem control signals, auto hardware flow control (RTS/CTS), an IrDA encoder/decoder for infrared links, and false-start-bit detection — covering the common serial-interface requirements for RS-232, RS-422, or IrDA transceivers without external glue logic.
Supply flexibility and board-fit
The 64-LQFP (10x10 mm) footprint is a common package for serial-port expansion on embedded controllers and industrial communication modules. Surface-mount assembly with a standard LQFP reflow profile. The tray packaging suits medium-volume pick-and-place runs; store the reels dry per J-STD-020 moisture sensitivity classification.
