What the PCA9617ATPZ is and where it fits
The NXP PCA9617ATPZ is a single-channel I²C buffer and re-driver. It accepts a 2-wire bus input and drives a 2-wire bus output at data rates up to 1 MHz. The dual supply range — 0.8 V to 5.5 V on one side and 2.2 V to 5.5 V on the other — allows the part to bridge buses operating at different logic levels. Housed in an 8-WFDFN with exposed pad (supplier package 8-HWSON, 2x3 mm), it is a surface-mount device rated for industrial temperature range from -40°C to 85°C.
Supply current and input capacitance — what they mean for the bus budget
The quiescent supply current is 50 µA typical, which is low enough that the buffer adds negligible load to the power rail in battery-powered or always-on I²C segments. Input capacitance is 7 pF per pin, so the buffer itself does not consume a meaningful portion of the bus's total capacitive budget — important when cascading multiple buffers on a long multidrop bus.
