Core processing and memory budget
The MC9S08SH16CTGR runs the S08 core at 40 MHz — this is the instruction-cycle ceiling for the 8-bit pipeline, so the throughput for a given task depends on the number of cycles per instruction and the flash wait-state profile at that clock. On-chip memory is split into 16 KB of flash (16K x 8) for program storage and 1 KB of RAM (1K x 8) for stack and data. The flash type supports field reprogramming, but the 1 KB RAM budget means the application stack and interrupt service routines must be sized tightly — a heavy RTOS footprint will consume most of it before the control loops start.
On-chip peripherals and connectivity
Built-in LVD (low-voltage detect), POR (power-on reset), PWM, and WDT (watchdog timer) reduce the external supervisor and timer IC count. The 13 general-purpose I/O lines are enough for a small control panel with a few pushbuttons, an LED display, and a serial link. Serial interfaces include I²C, LINbus, SCI (UART), and SPI — covering the common fieldbus and sensor protocols for 8-bit embedded control. The 8-channel 10-bit ADC samples analog inputs like potentiometers, temperature sensors, or current shunts without an external converter.
RoHS3 compliant (2011/65/EU + 2015/863), with no exemptions flagged.
