The NXP MPC5553MVZ132 is a 32-bit single-core MCU from the MPC55xx Qorivva family, built around the Power Architecture e200z6 core running at 132 MHz. It carries 1.5 MB of on-chip Flash and 64K x 8 of RAM, with a 40-channel 12-bit ADC array and a full set of connectivity peripherals including CANbus, Ethernet, SCI, and SPI.
ADC array — 40 channels, 12 bits
The integrated 40-channel 12-bit ADC is one of the densest on-chip conversion arrays in this MCU tier. For a system architect, that means fewer external multiplexers or signal-conditioning ICs when monitoring multiple analog sensors — think throttle position, exhaust pressure, and oil temperature on a single engine controller, or current/voltage feedback from several motor phases. Each channel is 12-bit resolution; the effective number of bits (ENOB) depends on sample rate and input frequency, but the raw channel count alone simplifies layout and BOM consolidation.

Supply and clocking
Core logic runs from a 1.35 V to 1.65 V supply, which keeps dynamic power in check at 132 MHz. The external oscillator input means the system clock source is chosen by the designer — a crystal, MEMS resonator, or external clock — giving flexibility in timing budget and jitter management. Surface-mount assembly on a 324-ball PBGA with a 23x23 mm footprint demands a multi-layer PCB with controlled-impedance routing for the Ethernet and high-speed bus lines.
