The NXP MC9S08QE96CFT is an 8-bit microcontroller built around the S08 core, running at up to 50 MHz. The 1.8 V supply rail keeps the power budget lean for battery-powered or energy-harvesting designs.
Serial interfaces include I2C, LINbus, SCI (UART), and SPI — enough to talk to common sensors, displays, and transceivers without glue logic. On-chip peripherals cover LVD (low-voltage detect), PWM, and WDT, so the part can supervise its own supply and handle soft resets without a supervisor IC.
It is not qualified to AEC-Q100, so it stays out of under-hood or chassis-domain automotive applications unless you add your own qualification screening.
