What this translator does on the bus
The NXP GTL2014PWZ is a 4-channel bidirectional open-drain level translator that converts LVTTL input signals to GTL output levels, housed in a 14-TSSOP package. The open-drain outputs let multiple devices share a wired-OR bus without contention, and the bidirectional channels handle data flow in both directions without a direction-control pin — the direction is determined by which side drives the bus low.
Open-drain bidirectional — how it works
Each of the four channels is a single NMOS pass transistor with the gate biased to Vref. When the LVTTL side pulls low, the GTL side follows; when the GTL side pulls low, the LVTTL side follows. No direction pin, no setup — the bus decides. The open-drain output type means the high level is set by external pull-up resistors to the respective supply rails, so the translator itself never sources current high.
