16 A RMS, 600 V logic-level triac for AC power control
The NXP BTA316X-600E,127 is a single triac in a TO-220F isolated full-pack package, rated for 16 A RMS on-state current and 600 V off-state voltage — a fit for medium-power AC switching in appliance, lighting, and motor-control circuits where the load current stays under 16 A continuous. The logic-level sensitive gate triggers at 10 mA max (1.5 V max gate voltage), letting a microcontroller I/O or a low-power driver switch the triac directly without a separate driver transistor — saves a component on the BOM.
Surge withstand and thermal margin for real loads
Non-repetitive surge current is rated 150 A at 60 Hz and 140 A at 50 Hz — this covers the inrush from an incandescent lamp cold filament or a motor start, so the triac does not fail during the first few cycles of a capacitive or inductive load. Maximum junction temperature is 125 °C, and the TO-220F isolated tab lets the heatsink mount directly to the triac without an insulating pad — the metal tab is electrically isolated from the die, which simplifies assembly in a metal-enclosure design.
