1.5kW bidirectional transient suppressor for 171V rails
The 1.5SMC200CA: Its 171V reverse standoff voltage (VRWM) and 190V minimum breakdown voltage make it a fit for protecting 170-190V DC buses or AC rectified rails against transients. The clamping voltage peaks at 274V at the rated 5.5A peak pulse current — this is the voltage the protected circuit must survive without damage. The single bidirectional channel replaces two unidirectional devices in series, saving board space and reducing part count on the BOM.
Active production — no end-of-life concerns
For a BOM cost engineer, this removes the single-source risk flag that comes with an NRND or obsolete TVS — the part can be specified without planning a near-term replacement spin.
DO-214AB footprint and thermal path
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, the 1.5SMC200CA is a surface-mount device with a large copper paddle on the cathode side (for unidirectional variants) that doubles as the primary heat path. For this bidirectional part, both terminals are electrically symmetric, but the package body still conducts pulse energy into the PCB copper pour. The 1500W peak pulse rating assumes the junction starts at 25°C; derate the peak power above that per the datasheet curve.
