Active production — what that means for your BOM
The ICE40LP1K-CM121: RoHS3 compliant, which clears the EU material restriction hurdle without a waiver or exemption expiry to track.
Key parametrics for the BOM-fit check
1280 logic elements in 160 LABs/CLBs — this is the smallest density in the iCE40 LP family, sized for glue logic, sensor bridging, or a small state machine rather than a full soft-core processor. 64 Kbit of block RAM gives you about 8 KB of on-chip storage — enough for a small frame buffer or coefficient table, but not a full packet buffer. Supply voltage is 1.14 V to 1.26 V — a single 1.2 V rail, which simplifies the power tree but leaves no margin for a noisy 1.0 V core rail; the regulator must hold regulation within ±50 mV.
Package reality — 121-UCBGA on the bench
The 121-UCBGA (5x5 mm) package is a fine-pitch BGA — no exposed leads to probe, so bring-up requires a socketed programming board or a pre-programmed part unless you have a debug header on the PCB. Surface-mount only; the package is moisture-sensitive, so follow the JEDEC floor-life rating on the reel label before reflow — a bake-out step may be needed if the seal was broken.
