For a 5 V system that needs glue logic consolidation — address decoding, state machines, or bus arbitration — this speed grade covers the majority of 8-bit and 16-bit microprocessor interfaces without forcing wait states.
Obsolete — sourcing through surplus and broker channels
Lattice has marked the GAL16V8D-25LJI as obsolete. A BOM line that depends on this exact order code should be reviewed for a functional replacement before the next build cycle; the GAL®16V8 family has pin-compatible speed and temperature variants that may still be active, but the 25LJI suffix is no longer in production.
20-PLCC — footprint and rework considerations
Housed in a 20-lead PLCC (J-Lead) package measuring 9×9 mm, the GAL16V8D-25LJI mounts on the PCB surface. The J-lead footprint is less tolerant of rework than a gull-wing package — the leads tuck under the body, so inspection and touch-up require a hot-air station or a dedicated PLCC removal tool.
5 V only — supply rail planning
If the rest of the board has migrated to lower voltages, a separate 5 V rail or a level-shifted interface is needed. The EE PLD technology retains the configuration when power is removed; no external configuration memory is required.
