With a 25 ns maximum propagation delay (tpd(1)), the GAL16V8D-25LJ fits combinatorial address decoding and small state machines running at clock rates up to roughly 40 MHz — the delay sets the ceiling for registered output toggle before setup-time violations appear. The 8 macrocells each can be configured as registered or combinatorial outputs, giving the designer 8 flip-flops or sum-of-product terms for PAL/GAL replacement in existing 5V logic boards.
