The GAL16V8D-10QJ is an EE PLD from Lattice's GAL®16V8 series, offering 8 macrocells with a maximum propagation delay (tpd) of 10 ns. This speed grade determines the maximum clock rate the device can sustain — for a 10 ns tpd, the internal logic paths settle within that window, so the system clock period must stay above 10 ns plus external routing delays. Runs on a 5V internal supply (4.75V to 5.25V) over a commercial temperature range of 0°C to 75°C. The 20-PLCC package (9x9 mm) is surface-mount with J-leads, common in through-hole-to-SMD migration for legacy PLD sockets.
What the 10 ns tpd means for your BOM line
The 10 ns tpd is the propagation delay from input to combinatorial output — it sets the ceiling on how fast the PLD can decode addresses or implement state machines. For a 50 MHz system clock (20 ns period), the 10 ns delay leaves 10 ns for external setup and routing, which is tight but workable with careful PCB trace length matching. With 8 macrocells, this part fits glue-logic consolidation — address decoding, bus arbitration, or simple state machines — not large-scale sequential logic.
