6.8 µF, 20 V, 700 mOhm ESR – TPS series molded tantalum
The TPSC685K020R0700: This is a KYOCERA AVX TPS series molded tantalum capacitor, 6.8 µF ±10% rated at 20 V, with a maximum ESR of 700 mOhm at 100 kHz and 25 °C. The 700 mOhm ESR is the key derating parameter: at the rated ripple current, the internal temperature rise from self-heating adds to the ambient, and the 20 V rating (67 % of the 6.8 µF part's typical voltage derating guideline) leaves headroom for 50 % derating on a 10 V rail. Case code C (2312 / 6032 Metric) measures 6.00 mm x 3.20 mm with a seated height of 2.80 mm max. The molded body is a standard surface-mount footprint for tantalum capacitors; the 2.80 mm height fits within most 3 mm board-to-board clearance envelopes.
-55 to 125 °C – full military temperature range
The 125 °C upper limit is the case temperature, not the junction — the ESR doubles approximately every 10 °C above 25 °C, so at 125 °C the effective ESR is roughly 2.8 Ω, which must be factored into the ripple current derating.
