That combination — high capacitance in a small 2917 case — makes it a go-to for bulk decoupling on 3.3 V or 1.8 V processor rails, or for hold-up energy in a power-fail circuit. The 45 mΩ ESR keeps ripple heating manageable; you are not wasting voltage drop in the cap's own resistance.
This cap works in avionics black boxes, downhole logging tools, satellite power buses, and engine-bay ECUs where the ambient hits 105°C and you still need the rail to stay clean. The molded case and tantalum construction hold up to thermal cycling better than a wet electrolytic would in that band.
2917 case — rework-friendly footprint
The 2917 (7343 Metric) case measures 7.30 mm x 4.30 mm with a seated height of 3.10 mm. That is a standard tantalum footprint — you can hand-solder it with a fine-tip iron or swap it on site with hot air if you have the stencil. The ±10% tolerance on 1000 µF gives you enough margin that a replacement from the same reel lands within spec without cherry-picking.
That means you can spec it into a fresh board without worrying about a forced migration next year.
