The 0805 surface-mount package (2.05 mm x 1.30 mm footprint) keeps the board area small, but the 7 Ohm ESR is higher than a ceramic MLCC of the same value — that matters for ripple current and output noise on a power rail. The molded case gives mechanical robustness and moisture resistance compared to a dipped tantalum, but the ESR climbs as the temperature drops — budget for that in a cold-start circuit.
Rated voltage and ESR — the real selection gate
4 V rated voltage means the capacitor should never see more than 4 V DC plus ripple. The 7 Ohm ESR at 100 kHz limits ripple current handling to roughly 120 mA RMS before self-heating becomes a concern. The 0805 case size (size code R) is the smallest footprint for a 10 µF tantalum; the pad geometry per the datasheet land pattern is critical to avoid tombstoning during reflow.
