Product details

N+1 ORing controller for automotive and PoE redundancy

The MAX16141AAAF/VY+ is an N+1 ORing controller from Maxim Integrated, designed to drive an external N-channel MOSFET for reverse-current blocking and input-source ORing in redundant power architectures. It is qualified to AEC-Q100 (Automotive, AEC-Q100 series), with a wide supply range of 3.5V to 36V covering 12V and 24V automotive systems as well as Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications.

The 70 µs OFF delay time determines how quickly the controller turns off the external FET when reverse current is detected — fast enough to protect the source from back-feed in a dual-battery or redundant-supply setup. No internal switch is integrated; the designer selects an external N-channel MOSFET rated for the load current. This keeps the BOM flexible — a single controller can scale from a few amps to tens of amps by swapping the FET. The 2.1 mA supply current is the quiescent draw of the controller itself. In an always-on automotive ECU, this is the floor for the standby budget — the external FET gate drive adds a transient load only during switching.

Package, temperature grade, and mounting

Housed in a 16-TQFN-EP (4x4 mm) with wettable flanks for automated optical inspection — a requirement for automotive production lines that need to verify solder-joint quality on bottom-terminated packages.
