Dual JFET op-amp in a hermetic TO-99 can
The AD642LH is a dual JFET-input operational amplifier from Analog Devices, housed in a TO-99-8 metal can package. It offers a 3 V/µs slew rate, 50 kHz -3 dB bandwidth, and 25 pA input bias current, making it suited for precision low-frequency analog signal conditioning where low input current drift and high input impedance matter. The dual-channel configuration saves board space in multi-channel integrator, sample-and-hold, or photodiode amplifier stages.
Package and rework – the TO-99 metal can
This is a through-hole part in a TO-99-8 metal can. The hermetic seal protects the die from moisture and contaminants. Rework is straightforward with a standard soldering iron. The metal case also acts as a heat spreader, though at 25 mA output per channel thermal rise is minimal at room temperature.
However, it is marked RoHS non-compliant – the TO-99 can uses lead-bearing solder or plating. If your assembly line is RoHS-exempt (military, aerospace, medical implant, or high-reliability industrial), this is not a blocker. For commercial lead-free reflow, you will need to verify the exemption or find a tin-plated equivalent.
