Receiver hysteresis and noise margin
The AD231AN: The receiver hysteresis is specified at 500 mV, meaning the input threshold has a 500 mV deadband between the rising and falling trip points — this rejects noise on long RS-232 cable runs better than the 400 mV hysteresis on the ADM222ANZ peer. In a noisy factory environment, that extra 100 mV of hysteresis translates to fewer false start bits on a 19.2 kbps or 115.2 kbps UART link, especially when the cable is routed near motor drives or VFDs.
Active lifecycle and compliance note
RoHS compliance is marked as non-compliant, so this is a lead-bearing (tin-lead) part. For legacy BOMs that require a tin-lead finish for solder-joint reliability or exemption status, this is the correct order code. For RoHS-required builds, a lead-free equivalent would need to be sourced separately.
