What this bridge rectifier is and where it fits
The GBPC15005-E4/51: The Vishay GBPC15005-/51 is a single-phase bridge rectifier in the standard GBPC package, rated for 15 A average rectified current with a 50 V peak reverse voltage. That 50 V peak reverse rating sets the ceiling for the AC input — it rectifies a 35 V RMS secondary winding, common in low-voltage DC power supplies for control panels, battery chargers, and general-purpose industrial gear. The GBPC package is a 4-square, through-hole form factor with QC (quick-connect) terminals — the tab-style lugs accept 0.250-inch female spade connectors, so it wires into a chassis or panel without soldering the main power path. The scorch mark on a dead board tells you the rectifier took the hit; this one's 1.1 V forward drop at 7.5 A means the junction runs at about 16.5 W under full load, so a heatsink is mandatory for sustained 15 A duty.
Ratings that decide the fit
The 15 A average rectified current (Io) is the DC output the bridge can deliver continuously — but that figure assumes the case is held at 55°C or lower with a heatsink. That heat has to get out through the GBPC package's metal tab to the heatsink — without one, the junction hits the 150°C maximum (TJ) fast and the part fails short. Reverse leakage is 5 µA at the rated 50 V reverse voltage and 25°C junction. That number climbs with temperature — at 125°C junction it can be 100x higher — so in a hot enclosure the leakage current eats into the efficiency budget. The 50 V peak reverse (VRRM) is the absolute maximum repetitive reverse voltage; a 35 V RMS AC winding peaks at 49.5 V, which is right at the edge. If the line sags or the transformer has a regulation tolerance, stepping up to a 100 V or 200 V rated bridge is the safer call.
