Single-gate Schmitt inverter for signal conditioning
The Toshiba TC4S584F,LF is a single-gate inverter with a Schmitt trigger input, part of the TC4S series. It cleans up noisy or slow-rising digital signals into a clean logic output, making it a standard choice for debouncing switch contacts, squaring off sensor edges, or level-conditioning before a microcontroller input.
Schmitt trigger thresholds and timing
The Schmitt trigger hysteresis is defined by the input low level of 1.1V to 3.3V and input high level of 3.35V to 10.6V across the supply range. This built-in dead band rejects noise on long PCB traces or cable runs — a 100 mV ripple on a 5V signal won't toggle the output. Maximum quiescent current is 4 µA, so the gate adds negligible draw in battery-powered or always-on circuits. Propagation delay is 120 ns max at 15V with a 50 pF load — fast enough for most sensor readouts and control signals below 4 MHz, but not intended for high-speed clock trees. The delay shortens at higher supply voltages and lengthens at lower ones.
