Eight-channel high-side driver for resistive and inductive loads
The TBD62783AFG,EL from Toshiba is an 8-output high-side power switch built around P-Channel output stages, delivering up to 500 mA per channel into a 50 V max load. It's a general-purpose switch array — think driving relays, solenoids, lamps, or small motors from a logic-level control signal without needing an external pull-up or level translator. The input side is non-inverting with a simple On/Off interface, and it doesn't require a separate Vcc supply — the load voltage itself powers the internal logic. That makes it a drop-in part for designs where the microcontroller GPIO directly commands the switch bank.
What the 500 mA and 50 V ratings mean on the bench
500 mA per channel is the continuous current ceiling at the output. For a resistive load like an incandescent lamp, the inrush at cold filament can exceed this — so derate or add a soft-start if the load draws more than 500 mA steady-state. Inductive loads (relay coils, solenoids) need a flyback diode across the load; the P-Channel output switches the high side, so the clamp goes from the output pin to ground. All eight outputs are independent with a 1:1 input-to-output ratio — each channel has its own control pin. The 18-SOP package (18-SOIC, 7.00 mm body width) is hand-solderable with a fine-tip iron and a steady hand; the 0.276-inch (7.00 mm) width fits standard SOIC footprints.
