The 5A peak source and sink capability determines which power switches this driver can cleanly turn on and off. A 5A drive can charge and discharge gate capacitance quickly, reducing switching losses.
Independent channels with dual input polarity
Each of the two channels has its own inverting and non-inverting input, so one channel can be configured as a non-inverting buffer and the other as an inverting buffer without extra logic. This is useful in half-bridge topologies where the high-side and low-side signals are complementary, or in dual-switch forward converters where each switch needs independent timing. The independent channel architecture also means the two outputs can drive separate loads with different PWM signals, as long as the total package dissipation stays within limits.
