Dual 5A low-side driver for IGBTs and MOSFETs
The Texas Instruments UCC27523DR is a dual-channel, low-side gate driver designed to drive IGBTs and N-Channel MOSFETs. The supply voltage range of 4.5V to 18V covers common bias rails from 5V logic to 15V industrial supplies.
The 5A peak source and sink rating directly determines how fast the gate capacitance of the power switch charges and discharges. With a typical 7ns rise and 6ns fall time, this driver can turn a large IGBT or MOSFET on and off with minimal switching loss, but the fast edges also place demands on layout — keep the gate-drive loop tight and the bypass capacitance close to the VDD and GND pins. The inverting input logic means a logic high on the input turns the output low; plan the control signal polarity accordingly.
140°C junction — thermal headroom for industrial environments
Rated for operation up to 140°C junction temperature, this driver suits designs where the power stage runs hot — motor-drive enclosures, server PSUs, or solar inverters. The -40°C low end covers cold-start conditions in outdoor telecom or automotive auxiliary loads. The 8-SOIC package dissipates heat through the leads and board copper; for continuous high-frequency switching near the 5A peak, ensure adequate PCB thermal relief.
Active lifecycle — no LTB concern for new designs
For dual-sourcing resilience, note that the LM5106MM/NOPB is a half-bridge driver with a different driven configuration and lower peak current (1.2A), so it is not a direct pin-compatible second source — the UCC27523DR remains the primary low-side dual-driver choice for 5A applications.
