9 A peak drive in a through-hole package — what it buys you
The UCC27321PG4 is a single-channel low-side gate driver from TI that delivers 9 A peak source and sink current, with 20 ns typical rise and fall times driving a 1 nF load. That drive strength handles the gate charge of large TO-247 or TO-220 N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs without slowing down the switching edge.
Supply and logic — no level shifter needed
Supply range is 4 V to 15 V, covering both 5 V logic rails and 12 V gate-drive bias from a single supply. The input is inverting: a logic high on the input pulls the gate output low, and vice versa. That matters when the upstream controller's PWM polarity is fixed and you need to invert the drive signal without an extra logic gate.
Temperature range and package — board-fit notes
The 8-PDIP package is through-hole, which simplifies prototyping and rework. It also gives better thermal conduction to the board than a small-outline package — the copper traces and pads under the DIP body sink heat from the die during repetitive switching.
