This reduces the overlap period between drain voltage and drain current during hard switching, cutting turn-on and turn-off losses. The trade-off is increased di/dt and dv/dt, which can couple noise into the gate-drive loop and the power stage if the layout does not minimise the loop area between the driver output, the MOSFET gate, and the source return.
