4 A step-down with synchronous rectification
The TPS54426PWPR: The 4 A rating sets the load ceiling for the downstream circuitry — a 3.3 V rail at 4 A supplies multiple digital loads, but the total draw must stay under this limit across the operating temperature range. Synchronous rectification is integrated, meaning the low-side MOSFET replaces the external Schottky catch diode typical in asynchronous designs. This reduces the external BOM count and improves efficiency, particularly at higher output currents where the diode forward drop would dominate conduction loss. The switching frequency is fixed at 700 kHz, a middle ground that allows a physically small output inductor (typically in the 2.2 µH to 4.7 µH range) while keeping switching losses manageable. The D-CAP2™ control architecture provides fast transient response without external compensation components.
