3 A buck converter with wide input range
The TPS5430DDARG4: The adjustable output version sets the rail via an external resistor divider from a 1.221 V reference. Switching at 500 kHz, the part balances inductor and capacitor size against switching losses — the 500 kHz rate keeps the LC filter components small enough for a compact layout while staying below the frequency where gate-drive losses dominate efficiency.
Industrial temperature grade and thermal budget
The junction rating, not the case temperature, is the binding constraint for the thermal design. The non-synchronous rectifier topology means the external Schottky catch diode carries the inductor current during the off-time — its forward voltage and thermal rating must be selected to match the 3 A output and the switching frequency.
