USB Type-C PD controller — what it does in the assembly
The Texas Instruments TPS25740BRGET is a USB Type-C controller that handles power delivery (PD) negotiation and port management for a single Type-C port. It integrates the physical-layer and protocol logic for USB PD, so the system MCU only needs to manage the policy engine via I2C. The supply range spans 4.65V to 25V, covering common automotive and industrial bus voltages from 5V to 24V nominal.
TI is not actively driving new designs toward this device; it remains available for existing production runs, but the window for last-time-buy orders is finite. For a new BOM, a current-production alternative should be evaluated. The TPS25740B variant (TPS25740BRGET) is the revision that supersedes the original TPS25740. The 'B' revision includes improvements in PD negotiation robustness and system-side fault handling.
Package and thermal — 24-VQFN with exposed pad
The 24-VQFN package measures 4x4 mm with an exposed thermal pad. Cut Tape works for prototyping or small-batch builds.
