Product details

ExpressCard slot power — one-chip solution

The Texas Instruments TPS2231RGPT is a three-output high-side power switch designed specifically for ExpressCard™ slots, delivering the 1.5 V and 3.3 V rails required by the standard from a single controller. Each of the three outputs can source up to 1.3 A, with a typical Rds(on) of 45 mOhm — at full load the conduction loss per channel is about 76 mW, well within the thermal capability of the 20-QFN with exposed pad.

Fault protection built in — no external sense resistor

The Power Good and Status Flag outputs give the host controller a clean handshake for slot power sequencing. The switch operates without a Vcc/Vdd supply pin — the load voltage itself powers the gate drive, so the only external connections are the input rail, the three output channels, and the flag pins.

Frequently asked questions

What voltage and current ratings does TPS2231RGPT support?

Each of the three outputs is rated for 1.3 A maximum continuous current. The switch handles load voltages of 1.5 V and 3.3 V — the two rails required by the ExpressCard standard.

What protection features does TPS2231RGPT include?

Fixed current limiting and over-temperature protection are built in. The Power Good and Status Flag outputs provide the host controller with slot power status for sequencing.
