Each output is rated for 1 A continuous with a typical on-resistance of 60 mOhm, keeping conduction losses low in a compact 32-pin HTSSOP with exposed pad for thermal relief.
60 mOhm Rds(on) — the thermal budget anchor
At 1 A per channel, the 60 mOhm typical Rds(on) yields about 60 mW of I²R loss per output. With four channels active, the total dissipation approaches 240 mW — manageable in the 32-HTSSOP with exposed pad if the board copper area under the pad is sized for a junction-to-ambient thermal resistance below 40 °C/W. The switch integrates fixed current limiting and over-temperature protection, so a shorted card slot or a stalled fan on a PCMCIA peripheral will trip the internal limiter before the package exceeds its thermal rating.
Serial interface and status flag — system-level handshake
The TPS2216DAP uses a serial interface to control the four outputs independently, with a 1:1 input-to-output ratio. A dedicated status flag output reports fault conditions — useful for the host controller to log over-current or over-temperature events and retry the power-up sequence.
