PCMCIA slot power switch — 160 mOhm on-resistance sets the thermal budget
The TPS2202AIDB from Texas Instruments is a four-output high-side PCMCIA power switch that distributes 3.3 V, 5 V, and 12 V rails to PC Card slots. Its 160 mOhm max Rds(on) per output at 1 A continuous current defines the voltage drop and power dissipation the board must handle. The serial interface controls the output configuration, and the 3:4 input-to-output ratio lets three supply rails feed four independent switch channels. Built-in fault protection includes fixed current limiting and over-temperature shutdown, so a shorted card slot or stalled fan on the host controller won't cascade into a board-level failure. The power-good and status-flag outputs give the host controller visibility into each slot's health without polling the serial bus.
Production has ended, and new stock is no longer manufactured. Sourcing is limited to independent distribution — surplus inventory, factory overruns, and broker-held stock.
