Power distribution switch with three independent channels
The TPS2043BD is a high-side N-channel power switch from Texas Instruments, designed for general-purpose power distribution where each output needs independent on/off control and fault reporting. It integrates three output channels, each capable of delivering up to 500 mA continuously, with a typical on-resistance of 70 mOhm per channel to minimize voltage drop and power dissipation. The input-to-output ratio is configurable as 1:2 or 1:1, meaning the three outputs can be driven from one or two enable signals, giving flexibility in how the switch banks are ganged together.
Fault protection and status reporting for robust system design
Built-in fault protection includes fixed current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO), so the switch handles overcurrent and thermal events without external sense resistors or supervisory circuits. A status flag output (open-drain, active low) asserts when a fault condition is detected — overcurrent, overtemperature, or UVLO — allowing a host microcontroller to log the event or retry the power cycle.
