100 MHz C28x core — what it buys for a control loop
The TMS320F28232PTPS is a Texas Instruments C2000 Delfino MCU built around the 32-bit C28x core running at 100 MHz. That clock rate, combined with the single-cycle MAC and hardware divide, lets it close a current-control loop in under 2 µs — relevant for servo drives, automotive solenoid drivers, and digital power supplies where the PWM update rate needs to stay above 50 kHz. The 128 KB of on-chip Flash (64K x 16) and 26K x 16 RAM give enough headroom for a real-time operating system kernel plus a moderate application stack without external memory.
AEC-Q100 and the 125°C ceiling
This part carries AEC-Q100 automotive qualification and is rated for -40 to 125°C ambient. That temperature grade covers under-hood engine control, transmission actuators, and industrial enclosures where the internal air temperature can hit 105°C.
CANbus and the peripheral set
The on-chip CANbus module is the primary reason this MCU gets specified for automotive body controllers and industrial fieldbus nodes. It saves an external CAN controller and reduces BOM count. The 16-channel 12-bit ADC samples at rates adequate for current sensing in motor drives, though the resolution is not high enough for precision instrumentation. The 88 GPIOs leave room for parallel interfaces and panel controls.
For a production BOM, this removes the single-source risk that comes with NRND or obsolete parts.
