60 MHz C28x core for real-time control loops
The 60 MHz clock gives you a 16.67 ns instruction cycle — enough headroom for a 10 kHz current loop with a 12-bit ADC read, PI calculation, and PWM update all inside one interrupt. Program memory is 64 KB of on-chip Flash, paired with 10K x 16 of RAM for data buffers and control variables.
Temperature range and peripheral set for harsh environments
The 16-channel 12-bit ADC lets you sample three-phase currents plus a DC-link voltage in one conversion sequence. On the connectivity side you get CANbus for drive-to-controller messaging, plus I²C, SCI, SPI, and UART/USART for local sensors, encoders, and debug links. Internal oscillator means one less external component on the BOM — the clock tree boots from the internal RC, and you can switch to an external crystal if the application needs tighter timing.
For a BOM line going into a multi-year production run, this part does not carry the obsolescence risk that would force a mid-life redesign.
80-LQFP footprint and supply rails
Housed in an 80-LQFP with a 12x12 mm body and 0.5 mm pitch — a common footprint shared across the Piccolo family, so a board layout for a sibling part often carries over with a BOM swap. Surface-mount only, so plan for reflow assembly with the standard LQFP solder-paste stencil.
