60 MHz C28x — real-time loop budget
The TMS320F28030PNQ: 32-bit C28x core at 60 MHz.
Memory fit for a single power stage
32 KB Flash and 6K x 16 RAM. That is enough for a three-phase motor-control firmware with a PI current loop, speed observer, and CANopen stack — but not much else. No room for a bootloader with fallback image or extensive lookup tables. The 16-channel 12-bit ADC can sample three phase currents plus DC-link voltage and a couple of temperature sensors without external muxing.
45 GPIOs in an 80-LQFP. On-chip CAN, LIN, two SPI, one I²C, and up to two SCI (UART) modules. The PWM module includes the standard Piccolo high-resolution PWM channels for interleaved or phase-shifted power-stage control. Brown-out detect, POR, and watchdog are integrated — no external supervisor needed for basic functional safety.
