The TMS320F28027DAS: It packs a 7-channel 12-bit ADC and a full set of control peripherals — PWM, capture, and quadrature encoder — into a 38-pin TSSOP package. The 60 MHz core delivers enough throughput for a single motor-control loop or a digital power-supply compensator running at 100 kHz+ switching frequencies, with headroom for the comms stack.
Memory and peripheral budget for a BOM line
64 KB of flash (32K x 16) and 6K x 16 of SRAM are the hard limits for firmware and data buffers. A typical field-oriented control (FOC) library for a PMSM motor takes about 16–20 KB of flash and 2–3 KB of RAM, leaving room for a Modbus RTU stack and fault logging. Connectivity includes I²C, SCI, SPI, and UART/USART — enough for sensor fusion, a local display, or a fieldbus gateway. The 20 GPIOs serve the control interface and the comms pins simultaneously.
The core runs from 1.71 V to 1.995 V — a single 1.8 V rail with 5% tolerance covers the range. The I/O bank is powered separately (not shown in the spec table, but typical for this family); the 3.3 V VDDIO rail must be present before or simultaneously with VDD. This qualifies the part for engine-bay electronics, outdoor solar inverters, and downhole instrumentation without a separate heatsink, provided the junction stays below the 150°C abs-max.
