What this 16-bit DSP brings to a motor-control board
It carries 16 KB of on-chip Flash program memory and 1K x 8 of RAM.
What the 16 KB Flash and 1K RAM mean for firmware
Connectivity and I/O for the control board
With 32 general-purpose I/O lines, CANbus, SCI, SPI, and UART/USART, this DSP can talk to encoder interfaces, HMI panels, and higher-level PLCs over a fieldbus network. The CAN 2.0B controller is particularly useful for distributed drive systems where multiple axes share a common bus. The 8-channel 10-bit ADC samples at rates sufficient for current sensing in a single-motor drive, but not for multi-channel simultaneous sampling or high-bandwidth power conversion.
